Knitting calculators

These knitting calculators work out cast-on counts, gauge conversions, even increases and decreases, top-down raglan sweaters, socks and yarn substitutions, and the reference charts convert needle sizes and match each yarn weight to the usual needles.

Even shaping after ribbing

Patterns often ask you to increase evenly across the first row after a ribbed edge, because the body is wider than the rib. Spreading the new stitches out keeps the fabric smooth. The calculator gives the exact stitch counts and groups them into short repeats you can follow.

Needle sizes in three systems

Needles are measured by diameter in millimeters. Older US and UK patterns use number systems instead, and they run in opposite directions: bigger US numbers mean thicker needles, while bigger old UK numbers mean thinner ones. The needle size chart lines all three up.

Swatch on the needles you will use

Gauge decides the size of everything you knit. Knit a swatch on the actual needles, measure the stitches in 4 inches, and change needle size until it matches the pattern before casting on.
